The idea of creating a museum of the Modern Olympic Games was that G. Papastefanou-Provatakis (1890-1978). The Amateur Olympic Games Museumwas foundedin 1961 and housed in the old buildingof the state school of Olympia.

In 1964, with the founder of the Museum as donor, the museum came under the supervision of the Greek Olympic Comitee. Then in 1972, with funds provided by the General Secretariat of Athletics, the Museum of the Modern Olympic Games was built.

It's located into the village Ancient Olympia, it's open every day from 8am till 5pm the ticket for adults only costs 3 euro each and you need about 20 minutes to visit it.
